김해시, 외국인 근로자를 위한 '찾아가는 한국어교육' 개강

On May 22, Gimhae City launched the 'On-Site Korean Language Education' program for foreign workers.

This new initiative by Gimhae City aims to support foreign workers who wish to learn Korean by providing language education directly at their workplaces, helping them adapt to life and work in Korea.

This year, the program began at Goryeo Sanki in Hallim-myeon, where a meeting room was provided for the classes. The program, which started on May 22, will run for four months with classes held twice a week.

A foreign worker who attended the first class shared their thoughts, saying, “I’ve always wanted to learn Korean, but I never had the opportunity due to time and location constraints. I'm delighted to receive education at my workplace. I’m grateful to Gimhae City for helping foreigners adapt to Korea in various ways.”

A Gimhae City official stated, “We hope that the on-site Korean language education program will lower the barriers to learning and help foreign workers adapt to Korean society. We will continue to support Korean language education through various initiatives for foreigners living in our city.”

Additionally, in March this year, Gimhae City opened a new Foreign Workers Support Center, which includes a permanent Korean language education facility. The center offers 10 different classes based on skill levels, accommodating over 400 students, and has received a positive response from the community.

김해시는 지난 22일 외국인 근로자를 위한 ‘찾아가는 한국어교육’을 개강했다.

‘찾아가는 한국어교육’은 김해시의 신규 사업으로, 한국어 교육을 희망하는 외국인 근로자들을 위해 근로자들이 일하는 사업장에 직접 찾아가 한국어 교육을 실시해 한국 생활 및 업무 적응을 지원하는 프로그램이다.

첫날 수업에 참여한 한 외국인 근로자는 “그동안 한국어를 배우고 싶었지만 시간이나 장소가 맞지 않아 기회가 없었다. 그런데 직장에서 교육을 받게 되어 기쁘다”며 “다양한 방법으로 외국인들의 한국 적응을 돕고 있는 김해시에 감사하다”고 소감을 전했다.

김해시 관계자는 “외국인 근로자들에게 찾아가는 한국어 교육이 배움의 문턱을 낮추고 한국 적응을 돕는 기회가 되길 바란다”며 “앞으로도 우리 시에 체류하는 외국인의 한국 사회 적응을 위해 다양한 사업을 통해 한국어 교육을 지원할 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편, 김해시는 올해 3월 새로 개소한 외국인근로자지원센터 내 상설 한국어교육장 등을 통해 지역사회 빠른 적응을 위한 한국어교육을 수준별 10개 반으로 나누어 400여 명의 수강생에게 지원해 큰 호응을 얻고 있다.
