[제이정’s 이슈 영어 회화] The elevator is not working! (엘리베이터 고장)

Victoria: I can’t believe all of the elevators are under construction. We have to take the stairs to our office on the 8th floor!! How ridiculous is that?
Joseph: Very ridiculous. But there’s nothing we can do about it. So, let's start walking.
Victoria: They should have kept one elevator open at least.
Joseph: Well, we won’t have to go to the gym after work today.

Victoria: 모든 엘리베이터가 공사 중이라니 믿을 수 없어. 8층에 있는 사무실까지 계단으로 올라 가야 해!! 이게 말이 돼?
Joseph: 말 안 된다고 봄. 그러나 어쩔 수 없으므로. 걷기 시작하자.
Victoria: 엘리베이터 최소 한 대는 작동 시켰어야 해.
Joseph: 음, 우리 오늘 퇴근 후 헬스장은 안가도 될 듯!


‘~은 공사 중이다’ 는
'~is/are under construction' 입니다.
ex) Our elevators are under construction.
ex)The building is under construction.

'계단' '엘리베이터‘ 혹은 ’에스컬레이터‘를 이용하는 것에 모두 ‘take'이라는 동사를 사용하여 'take the stairs' 'take the elevator' 'take the escalator' 라 하면 되겠습니다.

터무니없는 사실/상황을 접했을 때 우리는 ‘이게 말이 돼?’ ‘말도 안 돼’라고 하며 놀람을 표현할 것입니다. 이러한 상황에서 ‘This is ridiculous.’ (이거 정말 말도 안 된다.) 혹은
‘Don’t be ridiculous’ (터무니없는 소리 하지마) 이런 식의 문장을 사용할 수 있겠습니다.
