[제이정’s 이슈 영어 회화] Going out of Business (폐업)

Greg: Did you hear that Gino’s is going out of business?
Matt: What? I had no idea.
Greg: Tomorrow is their last day.
Matt: Why are they closing? That place looked so fancy and crowded all the time.


Greg: Gino's 문 닫는다고 들었어?
Matt: 진짜? 완전 몰랐네.
Greg: 내일이 마지막 날이래.
Matt: 왜 폐업하는 거래? 겉에서 보면 항상 화려해 보이고 붐벼 보이던데.



사업을 그만둔다는 말은 ‘stop a business'라고 하지 않고, ’to go out of business'라고 합니다.

Ex) "The new ice cream shop already went out of business." (최근에 개업한 아이스크림가게 벌써 망했대.)

Ex) If we don't get help, we're gonna go out of business in no time. (우리가 도움을 받지 못하면 아주 짧은 시간 내에 폐업할거에요.)

제가 토익스피킹 수업을 하는 지역이 강남역 부근인데 식당이나 각종가게들이 한달 사이에도 몇 개가 열고 닫고 바뀐답니다. 먹고 살기 쉬운 분야가 없어요 참으로...
